PROJECTS

  • Joy the Zine

A publication to share stories of practices that give pleasure and push back against the status quo. There are also events and workshops!

JOY is a growing ecosystem of people, events, and stories, all connected by the desire to shift our approach to the current moment and our future. Instead of being overwhelmed, anxious, angry, or numbed out about our collective future, what if we actively find ways to create the world we want? What if we insist on connection over isolation? How can we find joy in seemingly mundane acts of resilience?

  • Story Swaps

A service for nonprofits that want to share their story with the community in a heart-filled way! Contact us to organize a Story Swap.

“The Story Swap space that Jennifer created for our SPARK teen to share their story and be vulnerable with community members was thoughtful, warm. It benefitted us in multiple ways: our student got to practice their storytelling skills, building their stage presence and confidence, and we as a program have been fortunate to receive donated funds from the Story Swap attendee—funds that are still being used to get kids outside, into nature, into the bigger world they ought to know about.” Dustin Eubanks, Director of SPARK! at United Action for Youth

  • 36 Questions for Civic Love

During 2024, artist-facilitators Kristy Hartsgrove Mooers and Jennifer New are hosting sessions of 36 Questions for Civic Love in neighborhoods around Iowa City. Their intention is to spark conversation between people who live near each other but don’t know each other; and to make us more curious about our neighbors and neighborhoods.

Each session is 2 hours long. Participants are paired with someone they don’t know well or at all and provided a list of questions. Pairs are invited to share a memorable conversation before they leave as part of a larger project to document the events.

  • PS1 Yoga Collective

I’ve been teaching yoga since 2010. I’ve taught in studies that feels too flashy and solo, which has felt lonely. This collective is “just right” — a group of down to earth practitioners in a truly community space.

“Jennifer’s yoga is my ‘home’. I can hear her voice when I get anxious, encouraging me to breathe or to take a big stretch. I’m able to really relax and unwind in this class in ways that I often don’t even know I need until I get there!” - Connie, yoga student
