I help organizations hone and amplify the story of their Why.
Why do the work? Who does it serve? Why does it matters.
Strategic communications is big picture: attuning the look & feel of all public-facing materials, creating the voice and style of media.
It is also granular and specific: creating articles, annual reports, newsletters, and other materials that fit and further an organization’s narrative.
Here are some examples of communications challenges and how I’ve helped.
-
Challenge: Under new leadership, the Obermann Center sought greater recognition and understanding of its work.
How I helped: Created entirely new branding, including logo, web site, newsletter, and annual report style. Wrote all major center materials, ensuring a consistent tone and style. Developed public events that brought the center’s story to larger audiences, including a conversation series and videos.
-
Challenge: Independent arts nonprofit is in the process of a major fundraising campaign. While the organization has impressive reach for its size and location, many people in the immediate community aren’t familiar with what it does and who it serves.
How I helped: Created stories based on interviews that helps tell PS1’s story and explain its impact. The stories — including the tone and thematic aspects — will serve as the foundation for the fundraising campaign.
-
Challenge: Tell stories that expand knowledge of the University of Iowa’s impact on students, the state, and beyond.
How I helped: I have written numerous articles, many of which I suggested, that tell unique stories. These include stories about food insecurity and beloved faculty.
